Helen has been having an affair with a family man named Matthew, who also happens to be her boss. Just when she decides to drop him and get on with her life, she opens the door to find Matthew on her doorstep. He announces that he's left his wife for her, and proceeds to move in. Not brave enough to throw him out, Helen quickly discovers that she can't stand him, and decides that her best option is to befriend his wife and convince her to take Matthew back. But she soon realizes that she really likes Sophie, Matthew's wife. This witty and engaging audiobook takes a wry look at the perils of getting what you wish for.
In this deliciously funny debut novel, a woman gets more than she bargained for when her lover finally leaves his wife and moves in to her home.
Rosalyn Landor's British accent aids the listener's enjoyment of this romantic comedy about a 40-year-old woman trying to get rid of her married lover after he has left his family in order to move in with her. At times funny, and even reflective, Landor is a capable narrator who takes the story through its various ups and downs and delivers its twists seamlessly. Alternating between the perspectives of the three main characters, Landor's characterizations of the mistress, the wife, and the meandering husband ensure that the listener is never confused. She shifts well among male and female characters and enlivens the cast of supporting characters each time they enter a scene. M.R. (c) AudioFile 2008, Portland, Maine
